The Peacemaker revolver, also known as the Single Action Army (SAA), was designed by Samuel Colt in 1873 and was made with various barrel lengths: the short version at 4.75 inches, longer versions at 5.5 and 7.5 inches, or the imposing 12-inch "Buntline Special," used by the legendary Wyatt Earp while serving with the Dodge City Peace Commission.

This firearm was initially used by the U.S. Army. However, within a few years, it became popular among North American citizens. The fact that it used the same caliber ammunition as the Winchester M1873 rifle contributed to its popularity as a short weapon in the late 19th-century Old West.

Interestingly, this revolver has received numerous nicknames, including Peacemaker, Frontier, and Widowmaker, the latter referring to its reputation for leaving widows of the men of that era.

The film industry romanticized the "Peacemaker" in Western movies of the 40s and 50s, associating it with big-screen stars like John Wayne or Gary Cooper. Even Roosevelt had one with his initials engraved, and George S. Patton carried two.
